Indonesian Oil & Gas Line Blind Valves | Media Conditions and Technical Selection Methods

07 / 18, 2026

Indonesia features diverse and tough oil and gas operating conditions. It covers five typical working media. The types are normal temperature oil and gas, sulfur-containing corrosive fluid, high-salinity offshore medium, ultra-low temperature LNG, and high-temperature refining medium.

Line blind valve selection follows a clear core principle. Check medium characteristics first. Then confirm valve structure, material, pressure grade and sealing form. All selected products strictly fit Pertamina rules and international industry standards.

1. Conventional crude oil & natural gas (normal temperature, low corrosion)

This medium has no sulfur and no salt. Its temperature and pressure stay stable. A105/A516 Gr70 carbon steel fans blind valves are the top choice. Match with Class 150/300 pressure grade and RF raised face sealing. It suits onshore well sites and conventional gathering pipelines. It delivers reliable performance with high cost performance.

2. High H₂S sour oil & gas (strong corrosion, stress cracking risk)

Most onshore blocks in Indonesia contain sulfurous media. Such media brings high safety risks. 2205 duplex stainless steel is a mandatory option. It fully meets NACE MR0175 anti-sulfur specifications. Adopt RTJ ring sealing for high-pressure working conditions. It effectively avoids leakage caused by sulfide corrosion.

3. Seawater & offshore associated media (high chloride, salt spray corrosion)

Offshore platforms and water injection pipelines have high-salinity media. 2507 super duplex stainless steel is selected for this scenario. It resists marine corrosive environments well. Valve bodies adopt heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings. Electrostatic bonding structures are equipped as standard.

4. LNG & BOG cryogenic media (-162°C, brittle fracture risk)

Common carbon steel cannot be used in ultra-low temperature scenarios. It is prone to brittle fracture. Choose LCB low-temperature carbon steel or 316L stainless steel. Match with PTFE+FKM composite low-temperature seals. This structure prevents cold brittleness and medium leakage.

5. High-temperature hot oil & refinery process media (200–400°C)

Refinery pipelines bear large temperature differences. WC9 chrome-moly alloy steel is applied for high-temperature resistance. Paired with graphite-metal hard seals. It resists thermal deformation stably. It fits isolation working conditions of refining equipment.

Structural Selection Rules

Use standard line blind valves for daily routine maintenance. Choose sliding line blind valves for large-diameter mainlines with frequent switching.Major manufacturers include Schuf, Hammer, Sammiw, Onis, and ZZJG,and so on. Apply single-piece insert plates for permanent plugging of decommissioned pipelines. All products comply with ASME, API and NORSOK industry standards
