High-Pressure Blind Valves Operating Guidelines

04 / 27, 2026

High-pressure blind valves are important safety isolation devices, mainly used in gas and natural gas pipeline systems to achieve reliable media isolation. Correct use is crucial. The following are the core operating procedures and safety points.

High-Pressure Blind Valves Operating Guidelines

I. Core Operating Procedures

Operating a blind valve in high-pressure conditions typically involves two steps: “opening” and “closing,” which must be strictly followed.

Before Opening the Blind Valve

  1. Confirm Status: Ensure the butterfly valve or gate valve connected to the blind plate valve is completely closed and open the vent valve to release pressure.
  2. Release the Clamps: First, completely release the clamps of the blind plate valve. For manual operation, the valve plate must be secured to prevent slippage; for hydraulic operation, ensure sufficient oil pressure in the directional cylinder to support the valve plate.
  3. Move the Valve Plate: After confirming the clamps are completely released, smoothly move the valve plate into position.
  4. Re-clamp: Once the valve plate is in position, immediately reopen and tighten the clamping device to ensure a reliable seal.

After the blind valve is closed:

  1. Check the seal: After closing, ensure the valve cover and clamping device are fully tightened to prevent any possible leakage.
  2. System restoration: Only restore the gas, liquid, or power supply to the pipeline after confirming that the blind valve is operating normally.

II. Safety Precautions:

  1. Reverse operation is strictly prohibited: Before operation, please confirm the opening and closing direction of the valve to avoid accidents caused by misoperation.
  2. Operation under pressure is strictly prohibited: Never force the valve plate to operate when the clamping device is not fully released, otherwise it may cause equipment damage or personal injury.
  3. Personnel position: During valve operation, operators must not stand in the valve operation area to prevent accidents.
  4. Abnormal operation: If any abnormality or malfunction is found during operation, please stop operation immediately and report it. Do not attempt to operate it yourself.
  5. Comply with operating procedures: All operators must strictly comply with operating procedures and safety regulations, and must not omit or change any steps.
